ExhibitionApr 23, 2026-May 24, 2026
Armed with only a camera and courage, Fatma Hassona documented life in Gaza during one of the most devastating conflicts in recent history.
In our Pop-up studio, you can gain insight into the Palestinian photographer’s important work through the exhibition A City of Ghosts, organized by Plan International Norway.
Fatma was an ambassador for Plan International in She Leads, a program that equips girls and young women in Africa and the Middle East to stand up for their rights and gain greater influence in both formal and informal institutions in their local communities.
For 18 months, she documented life in Gaza so that the world would not forget them. Her camera captured not only suffering, but also the life that, against all odds, continued.
On April 16, 2025, Fatma was killed in an airstrike along with ten members of her family. She was only 25 years old.
Fatma knew what she was risking. Journalists, photographers, and aid workers were being killed in Gaza on a scale the world had rarely seen before. Yet she continued to take photographs. She wanted the world to see what people in Gaza were living through, and to ensure they would not be forgotten.
She leaves behind a powerful visual testimony, the photo diary A City of Ghosts. Her images show a city marked by war and the people who refuse to give up. Above all, they are a strong voice for those who are not heard.
"If I die, I want a loud death."
Pop-Up Studio
This exhibition is on view in the Pop-Up Studio at the Nobel Peace Center. Here, we lend out exhibition space free of charge to give others a voice, so that together we can speak more and louder about those who contribute to a more peaceful world. Together, we can give hope a voice.
