New ‘Peace Builders’ Learning Experience Launches in Minecraft to Inspire Youth to Build a Better World. Gamers from across the world are invited to a virtual Nobel Peace Center.

Starting August 30, Minecraft players around the world can explore the stories of Nobel Peace Prize laureates and discover ways to mitigate conflict, build peace, and bring about positive change in a new game-based learning experience called ‘Peace Builders.’

With accompanying educational resources created by the Nobel Peace Center and Games for Change, ‘Peace Builders’ provides an immersive learning experience with opportunities to extend learning beyond the game and find out more about the world’s greatest changemakers and strategies for democratic social change.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to once again partner with Minecraft Education and Games for Change to promote peace and democratic citizenship among the world’s youth,” said Kjersti Fløgstad, Executive Director of the Nobel Peace Center. “In a world of unrest, we are very happy that Peace Builders is an exciting gaming experience that can bring the solutions and engaging stories of the Peace Prize laureates to a young, worldwide audience on a platform they know and love.”

“’Peace Builders’ is a perfect example of what's possible when we bring together game creators and social innovators to drive real-world impact,” added Susanna Pollack, President of Games for Change. “Games for Change is thrilled to support this ground-breaking collaboration where students will learn the importance of democracy and peace-building through the power of play.”

‘Peace Builders’ is a sequel to ‘Active Citizen,’ a game-based learning experience released in Minecraft Education earlier this year, in collaboration with the Nobel Peace Center and Games for Change. Classrooms around the world have played the ‘Active Citizen’ world and more than twelve thousand students across Norway joined a special ‘Active Citizen’ virtual lesson in March. This summer, ‘Active Citizen’ was featured on stage at international conferences ISTE and the Games for Change Festival, where the ‘Peace Builders’ sequel was announced.

‘Peace Builders’ evolves the story of ‘Active Citizen’ by offering perspective on conflict resolution through the eyes of four new Nobel Peace Prize laureates. The content is now available August 30 for Minecraft Bedrock in the Minecraft Marketplace and all users of Minecraft: Education Edition.

“Minecraft: Education Edition encourages learners to explore real-world issues through immersive and imaginative worlds,” said Allison Matthews, Head of Minecraft Education. “We’re excited to launch ‘Peace Builders’ in partnership with the Nobel Peace Center to inspire millions of students across the globe to become change agents and help build a better world.”
