Great anticipation ahead of this year’s announcement

According to Alfred Nobel’s will, the Peace Prize shall be awarded to the person who has “done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations and the abolition or reduction of standing armies and the formation and spreading of peace congresses”. This year, 338 candidates have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize: 244 individuals and 94 organisations. Although the media often speculates about potential candidates, the Nobel Committee does not confirm any nominations. In fact, all nominations are kept secret for 50 years after the prize is awarded.

Anyone can be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. A wide range of people can nominate - from members of parliament, government ministers from around the world, and university professors in many different fields. Altogether, tens of thousands of people worldwide have the right to put a name forward. The deadline was 31 January, and since then, the Nobel Committee has been working to assess the various candidates.
