A white dove was released from the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo today, marking 75 years of peace in Europe.

Victory in Europe Day was marked at the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo today. A white dove was released from the windows of the Center. As the bird crossed the square, the John Lennon song "Give Peace a Chance" played from the City Hall bell tower.

Minister of Culture and Equality, Abid Q. Raja, was present at the ceremony.

"The white dove is probably our most known symbol for peace and hope. A white dove flying over the City Hall square the same day as we celebrate 75 years of peace and freedom in Europa, has a strong symbolic impact."

With the ceremony 8 May, a new tradition is started in Oslo. Every Friday at noon, the Nobel Peace Center will release a peace dove together with “The good news of the week”, marking that the world is moving forward in a more peaceful direction.

"In a world that seems unsafe and unstable, peace and hope is needed more than ever, and the white dove is probably the strongest symbol we have of peace and hope."
