Opening of the art installation: Thinking of You
Friday 19 June, Thinking of You opens at Brynjulf Bulls plass in Oslo, outside the Nobel Peace Center, with a small ceremony. At the opening, you will meet the artist behind the work, Alketa Xhafa Mripa, who will say a few words before the Peace Dove flies over City Hall Square with a message of hope. Join us at 11:30 to experience the installation and take part in this moving marking of solidarity with people affected by sexual violence in war.
About the artist:
Alketa Xhafa Mripa is a contemporary artist born in Kosovo and based in the United Kingdom. She is particularly known for projects that highlight human rights, social justice, and experiences that are often underrepresented in the public sphere.
She gained international recognition through the art installation Thinking of You, first presented in Kosovo in 2015. The work was created to raise awareness of the estimated 20,000 people who were subjected to sexual violence during the war in Kosovo in 1998–1999. The installation originally consisted of thousands of dresses hung in a stadium in Pristina, donated by survivors and supporters as a collective act of solidarity. After being shown in The Hague, Strasbourg, and New York, the exhibition is now coming to Oslo
Donate a dress
Would you like to contribute to the installation? You are welcome to donate a dress – either as a survivor or as a gesture of support for those affected.
The Nobel Peace Center will collect dresses from 8–14 June, between 10:00 and 18:00. All you need to do is speak to a member of staff in the Nobel Peace Center’s entrance hall, hand in your dress, and become part of a global art project that makes survivors’ experiences visible and recognised. Please note that dresses cannot be returned once the installation moves on.
