Mela Classic Sunday

MelaClassic at Nobel Peace Center

Join us as the Nobel Peace Center is transformed into a space for raga, tala and qawwali.

Time: 14 Aug 2022 12:00 - 15:00
Place: Nobel Peace Center

Let yourself be enticed by South Asia's classic sounds and suggestive qawwali rhythms; two musical traditions that have developed over centuries. MelaClassic takes place at the Nobel Peace Center. Most of what you will hear on MelaClassic is from the northern tradition of South Asian music, where rag (melody) and tal (rhythm) are central. In contrast to the southern Carnatic tradition, one finds much more influence from Sufism and Islam in the north!

Program

14:00 Ragascape

The four members of Ragascape, Reshail Mansoor on vocals, Patrick Vedlog on bansuri, the tabla player and percussionist Andreas Bratlie and Aryaan Mansoor on harmonium, have in their own way distinguished themselves as musicians within the Southeast Asian classical music.

15:30 Ashraf Sharif Khan

Ashraf Sharif Khan represents a new generation of master musicians in the raga tradition. He lives in Hamburg, has collaborated with artists from several genres and has toured all over the world. His music is characterized by astonishing technical skill and melodic beauty.
