Do we live in political echo chambers?

Photo: Johannes Granseth / Nobel Peace Center

Polarization characterizes the political debate. Algorithms on social media serve us a filtered view of the world. We need curiosity and openness to others' perspectives to protect and preserve democracy. Is it possible to break out of the echo chamber?

Time: 25 Sep 2024 16:00 - 17:30 CEST
Place: Nobel Peace Center

The event is free. Refreshments can be purchased at student-friendly prices in the bar. Register here.

The museum will be open until 20:00 and the event ticket includes entry to the exhibitions.

We will first present a word cloud from Open Chair Democracy Talks, which has asked Norwegians about their views on democracy in Norway. Then, researcher Kari Steen-Johansen will give a lecture on how digitalization, social media, and trench rhetorics affect democracy. Finally, we invite the leadership of the youth parties to a conversation about how TikTok, polarization, and echo chambers influence politics.

The event will be held in norwegian.
