ESOP Conference: The Future of Egalitarianism

27 October 2016 15.00

How can we break the vicious cycle of increasing inequality and social unrest in the world today? Is there a future for society models with low inequality and high productivity?

ESOP was awarded the Centre of Excellence (CoE) title by the Norwegian Research Council (RCN) in 2007. The research centre has throughout these years produced a vast amount of research focusing on the links between equality, social organization, and economic performance, both in rich and poor countries. The conference marks the end of the CoE- period, but the centre continues with fresh funding.

Keynote speakers

Dani Rodrik, Harvard University: “Is egalitarianism possible in a globalized world?”

Kalle Moene, University of Oslo: “Is there a future for society models with low inequality and high productivity?”

Eliana La Ferrara, Bocconi University: “Can we attain equality of opportunity for immigrants?”

The keynote speeches will be followed by a panel discussion.
